But at some point, you may hanker after something new. Something a little different.
Perhaps something a little less busy, an event that is more intimate and where you can get to meet all the other participants. Some of these folk, become friends for life.
Its probably an age thing, but the events that we gravitate towards when we're done with the popular event circuit, tends to be endurance by nature.
So you do The Freedom Challenge and The Munga. These fit the bill, exactly.
Only problem is that, they come with a hefty price tag.
So, I suggest that you look at Andy Masters' Massive Adventure events, where you can find value for money. Andy and Liz are passionate and selfless about cycling and truly care about all participants in their events. You will be welcomed with open arms by them and all the other athletes in this riding fraternity.
But now we have an option for you that's even more stripped down, configurable and fits into even the most modest of budgets.
The route is a collaberative effort between Elton Prytz, Kevin Davie, and Dave Bell.
I insisted that we add a few km's, in order to end at the lighthouse beacon marking the one side of the harbour entrance. And so it is.
It starts just outside Heidelberg and takes you offroad along railway service roads to Richards Bay.
A distance of some 545km involving 6700m of climb.
The Challenge
- Download the .gpx files.
- Invite a friend or two.
- Plan a little.
- Decide at which B&b's you'd like to stay, if any.
- Get down to the lighthouse as fast as you can.
- Your time starts when you leave and continues, uninterrupted, until you reach the harbour light in Richards Bay.
